Who this workbook is for
Christmas pictures are some of the first things children want to color, because they see them in shop windows, picture books and songs every December. This book is for ages 3 to 6: three- and four-year-olds can color the pictures and trace the big solid word, and five- and six-year-olds can finish the practice lines and the word games on their own.
Every picture page follows the same simple pattern, so children quickly know what to do without help. Families celebrate in many ways, so the book sticks to common Christmas pictures that children meet in books and on cards in the United States. If you would like pages for other winter words, such as Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or New Year, our word tracing worksheets turn any list of words into a tracing sheet. For more picture-based fun all year round, the Animals Tracing and Coloring Book works the same way.
What is inside the Christmas Tracing and Coloring Book
The workbook has 27 pages. Every page is numbered in the bottom corner, so you can print one section at a time.
| Pages | Section | Number of pages |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | Cover, a page for parents and teachers, and the contents | 3 |
| 4–13 | Decorations | 10 |
| 14–21 | Christmas Favorites | 8 |
| 22–26 | Christmas Word Games | 5 |
| 27 | Certificate of achievement | 1 |
Decorations (pages 4–13)
Ten Christmas decorations, one per page: tree, star, gift, stocking, bell, wreath, ornament, candle, holly and lights. A large outline picture fills the top of the page for coloring, with a small colored example beside it and a fun fact in a speech box. Below that is the word in solid letters followed by dotted copies with a green start dot on every letter, and then two empty lines for writing the word from memory. Tree, star, gift and bell are the shortest words, and ornament is a fun challenge for confident writers. The fun facts on the candle, holly and lights pages include a short safety note for grown-ups.
Christmas Favorites (pages 14–21)
Eight Christmas favorites with the same page layout: snowman, reindeer, Santa, gingerbread, snowflake, sleigh, candy cane and angel. Santa starts with a capital letter, so that page is a chance to practice a capital S. Gingerbread is the longest word in the book, and candy cane is two words on one line, so you can pick the pages that match your child’s stamina.
Christmas Word Games (pages 22–26)
Five review pages. Decoration Shadow Match (page 22) and Christmas Shadow Match (page 23) ask your child to draw a line from each picture to its dark shadow, and Match the Pictures (page 24) pairs identical pictures. The last two pages are word-tracing sheets with a picture beside each word: tree, star, gift, bell and holly on page 25, and snowman, Santa, angel, sleigh and candle on page 26, each with a dotted word to trace and an empty line to write it again. The answers to the three matching pages are printed upside down at the bottom of the page.

How to use this workbook
Print and pick a few pictures
Choose US Letter or A4 and print at 100% (Actual size). Start with pictures your child already knows and likes. Type a page range such as 4-9 to print only those pages.
Say the word and clap its beats
Clap the syllables before writing: rein-deer has two claps and or-na-ment has three. It makes longer words feel less scary.
Color first
Let your child pick the colors. A purple reindeer is fine, and so is a blue snowman. Coloring is a warm-up for the pencil work to come.
Trace the word, then write it alone
Follow the solid word and dotted copies with a pencil, starting from the left. The two empty lines are for writing the word from memory.
Talk about your holiday
Ask “Do we have one of these at home?” and “What does your family do in December?” to turn a worksheet into a conversation.
Count down to Christmas, one page a day
The eighteen picture pages (pages 4 to 21) make an easy countdown. Print them, then do one page a day from December 7 to Christmas Eve on December 24. A few minutes of coloring and tracing each day keeps little hands busy and gives children something calm to look forward to during a busy month.
The long words in this book are a good place to practice breaking words into parts. The guide on How to Teach Syllables to Preschool and Kindergarten Children shows simple clapping and tapping games, and the Shadow Matching Activities for Preschoolers guide explains why matching pictures to shadows builds the careful looking that reading needs.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Christmas book free?
Yes. Download it, print as many copies as you need for your own children or students and use it at home or in class. Please do not sell the file or put it on another website. No sign-up or email address is needed.
Which pictures are in the Christmas book?
Ten decorations (tree, star, gift, stocking, bell, wreath, ornament, candle, holly, lights) and eight Christmas favorites (snowman, reindeer, Santa, gingerbread, snowflake, sleigh, candy cane, angel).
Do the pictures need to be colored in a certain way?
No. The big pictures are black outlines on purpose, so children can choose any colors. A small colored example sits beside each one, but it is only a suggestion. For a bonus game, ask your child to color the reindeer or the snowman in the silliest colors they can think of.
Can I make pages for other winter holidays?
Yes. Type any holiday words into our word tracing worksheets and print a page of your own, for example for Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, winter or New Year.
Is there a test or answer key?
There is no test. The three matching pages (22, 23 and 24) have their answers printed upside down at the bottom of the page, and every other page is practice.
