Who this workbook is for
Learning the alphabet is a big job for a three- or four-year-old, and a Christmas picture on every page makes it feel like play. This book is for ages 3 to 5. Three-year-olds can trace the big letters and color the pictures, and four- and five-year-olds can write the letters and the words alone and play the alphabet games.
Every letter follows the same two-page pattern, so children quickly know what to do without help. Families celebrate in many ways, so the pictures are common ones that children meet in shops and books in the United States, and the practice itself is the same for every child. If you want pages for the letters of your child’s own name, our name tracing worksheets make them in seconds, and the ABC Tracing Book covers the same letters with pictures for all year round.
What is inside the Christmas ABC Tracing Book
The workbook has 62 pages. Every page is numbered in the bottom corner, so you can print one section at a time.
| Pages | Section | Number of pages |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | Cover, a page for parents and teachers, and the contents | 3 |
| 4–55 | Letters A to Z (two pages for each letter) | 52 |
| 56–61 | Alphabet games | 6 |
| 62 | Certificate of achievement | 1 |
Letter pages (pages 4–55)
Each letter gets two pages. The first page shows how to form the capital letter and the small letter, with numbered start points, direction arrows and a short saying such as “line down, then across”. Below that are four practice rows with dotted letters to trace and empty lines for writing, and a find-and-circle game for the letter. The second page has a Christmas picture to color, the letter sound, the word to trace and a “which picture starts with this letter?” question.
Alphabet games (pages 56–61)
Six review pages: two pages of missing letters (capital letters on page 56 and small letters on page 57), a page for matching big and small letters (58), a find-and-color page for the tricky letter b (59), and two beginning-sounds pages with ten questions each (60 and 61). The answers are printed upside down at the bottom of each page.
A to Z Christmas words
Every letter has one Christmas picture and word. All of them start with the letter sound, so the picture helps your child remember the sound.
- A angel, B bell, C candy cane, D drum, E elf
- F fireplace, G gift, H holly, I icicle, J jingle bells
- K kitten, L lights, M mittens, N nutcracker, O ornament
- P poinsettia, Q quilt, R reindeer, S Santa, T tree
- U ugly sweater, V village, W window, X xylophone, Y yule log, Z zzz
A few letters are tricky, as in every alphabet book. The letter X says /z/ at the start of xylophone but /ks/ at the end of a word, and the X page has a game to circle the x in Xmas, mix, box and wax. The letter Q always comes with u, as in quilt. Santa starts with a capital S because it is a name.

How to use this workbook
Print and pick a few letters
Choose US Letter or A4 and print at 100% (Actual size). Start with the letters in your child’s name. Type a page range such as 4-7 to print only those pages.
Say the saying as you trace
Each letter has a short saying, such as “slant down, slant down, then across”. Saying it out loud helps the movement stick.
Color the Christmas picture
Let your child pick the colors. A purple reindeer is fine, and so is a blue snowman. Coloring is a warm-up for the pencil work to come.
Say the sound, then the word
Say the letter sound and then the word: “b, b, bell”. Trace the word and write it alone on the empty lines.
Little and often
Five to ten happy minutes a day is plenty, and one page is a good day. Stop before your child gets tired, and use the games as a break.
